On October 13, 2016, Annie Mae Hunter Tweedy of Hampton, VA, passed away at the age of 96.

Mrs. Tweedy was preceded in death by her husband of over 64 years, John Burton Tweedy, and her son, John Hunter Tweedy, and one sister and five brothers.

She is survived by her daughter, Anne T. Emerson and husband, Malcolm, of Egg Harbor Township, NJ, her son, Charles W. Tweedy and wife, Frances, of Hampton, VA, and her daughter-in-law, Susan W. Tweedy, of Williamsburg, VA, as well as six grandchildren, seven "great-grands" and...

On October 13, 2016, Annie Mae Hunter Tweedy of Hampton, VA, passed away at the age of 96.

Mrs. Tweedy was preceded in death by her husband of over 64 years, John Burton Tweedy, and her son, John Hunter Tweedy, and one sister and five brothers.

She is survived by her daughter, Anne T. Emerson and husband, Malcolm, of Egg Harbor Township, NJ, her son, Charles W. Tweedy and wife, Frances, of Hampton, VA, and her daughter-in-law, Susan W. Tweedy, of Williamsburg, VA, as well as six grandchildren, seven "great-grands" and two "great-great-grands". She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Lucille T. Winebarger, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Tweedy taught elementary school after completing studies at Longwood College. She was very active in her church, Sunday School, the United Methodist Women and her Charlotte Hudgins Circle. She was also a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Rustburg Chapter 23. She was very active in community projects and was a poll worker at elections for many decades. She was also active in her Neighborhood Watch program.

Mrs. Tweedy was very talented at all kinds of handiwork and stitchery, especially crocheting. She made countless afghans for family and friends.

The family would like to thank all of Mom's caregivers, doctors and hospice personnel for their loving care and attention.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to Central United Methodist Church, 225 Chapel Street, Hampton, VA 23669.

The family will receive friends 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Monday, October 17, 2016 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of Annie Mae's life will be held 11:00 am, Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Central United Methodist Church with interment to follow at Parklawn Memorial Park.
